THE CAMPAIGN:
Plantation workers and independent farmers organisations in cooperation with European NGOs are calling on the EU to end over a century of large-scale injustice and ecologically unsound practices in banana production. The EU-15 is the world's largest single importer of bananas with around 40% of total world exports. This makes Regulation 404/93 of the Single European Market of great importance to the economy and living environment of plantation workers and banana farmers.

The EUROBAN campaign is lobbying the EU to support more sustainable banana production and trade by calling for the existing regime to be modified to provide market access to 'fair trade' bananas. The campaign supports the incoporation of minimum social and environmental standards in banana production.

The campaign includes mailing of postcards addressed to Mr Fischler (and a second postcard to Mr Douglas Hogg if you are within the UK).

Postcards can be obtained from Banana Link: c/o Farmers' Link , 38-40 Exchange Street, Norwich NR2 1AX
